Cruise Dreams Announces Top 5 Destinations from Bucket List Survey

Contestants in Koozie Photo Contest Picked Top 5 Bucket List Destinations for 8 Cabin Cruise Prize

Cruise Dreams, an agency known for innovative and exciting group travel, invited all clients to take a fun picture of the Cruise Dreams Koozie then get friends and family to vote for their offering.  The winner received 8 staterooms aboard a cruise selected from her list of 5 “bucket list” destinations. Each entrant submitted their bucket list with their photo.

“Everyone should have a bucket list and see how many of destinations they can visit as soon as possible,” suggests Kim Gibbons, founder and president of Cruise Dreams. “We’re all about fulfilling dreams and helping people create those extraordinary vacations. So there’s nothing we like more than helping someone cross something off their bucket list!”

Here in order of popularity are the top 5 destinations:

#1. Alaska – No surprise here.  With the exotic nature of the number one destination on the bucket lists of entrants, Alaska was a shoo-in! You could fill a list alone with all of the amazing, unique experiences you’ll find – like glaciers, bears, dogsledding, salmon fishing, panning for gold and Aurora Borealis, oh my! Gibbons adds that it’s even on her bucket list, just up close and personal next time on an expedition ship since she’s sailed to Alaska many times aboard larger cruise ships.

“I’d definitely recommend one of the many cruise tours to Alaska,” says Gibbons. “You’ll see so much more and it’s definitely worth it as a once in a lifetime experience.”

#2. Hawaii – the focus seems to be on finding the exotic in your own backyard!  The diversity of the Hawaiian Islands coupled with the familiarity of English spoken here and still one of the fifty states makes this a winner on many lists. Whales, dolphins, volcanoes, pineapples, surfing, breathtaking scenery, World War II history, exotic mix of cultures, hula dancers, luaus, just for a start. Gibbons suggest a cruise with a pre or post land package for anyone wanting to sample the true taste of the Hawaiian islands.

#3. Australia and New Zealand – Could it be the contrast that makes this such a popular destination?  From opera to the Outback, this is a region of unexpected juxtapositions. It’s almost a world its own with totally unique wildlife, isolated from much of the world, on land and under astonishing reefs. Contrast vineyards with rugged mountain ranges, hang ten on world class waves or zip through a 120 million year old rainforest, wallabies to whales and you get an idea of the diversity of this area.

#4 and #5 – This was actually a tie between two very different European based cruises.  The first is what might be called a Baltic/Northern Europe cruise. These combine Scandinavia capitals like Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki with Norwegian fjords, Russia’s St. Petersburg and Estonia’s Tallinn.  What an unusual combination – Russian Tsars and palaces, canals, the Little Mermaid (the statue not the movie), Medieval fortresses, and more.

The tie for 4th and fifth place goes to the Mediterranean. This cruise destination has its own variety ranging from a Greek Isles cruise to Eastern or Western itineraries. Typically, a Western selection may include with ports of call in Spain, France and Italy, possibly Portugal, Morocco, Monte Carlo, Malta, Croatia and more. Again, sheer variety of experience is one of the highlights of this bucket list destination. Eastern Mediterranean cruises share a bit of the Greek Isles with the Adriatic coast of Italy and Croatia, Turkey’s Istanbul and Kusadasi, and the Black Sea which could add a taste of the Ukraine and Russia.
